Not every cat belongs in a living room.
AAVA's Field Feline Program places healthy cats that aren't suitable as indoor pets into environments where they can flourish — working alongside humans to control rat and mice populations. These cats can be placed in barns, shops, farms, and other properties looking for an effective and inexpensive form of rodent control.
Our experience has shown that cats are more successful when placed in pairs or groups, so multiple-cat placements are encouraged — but not required.
All Field Feline cats are spayed/neutered and up to date on rabies vaccination. A $20 donation per cat is required to help keep the program running.
What you'll need to provide
✓ A warm, safe shelter — such as a barn, shop, or outbuilding — to protect the cat from the elements
✓ Food and clean water every day
✓ Future veterinary care if needed
✓ A way to keep the cats contained for 2 weeks to acclimate to their new surroundings (an acclimation kennel can be provided for you)
Upon approval, a volunteer will visit your property to assess the shelter and/or set up an acclimation kennel for you.
Please read before applying
These cats have had minimal to no human contact. They will likely hide from humans and will not allow themselves to be touched. These are unsocialized, wild cats. By submitting an application you are agreeing to feed and provide shelter for these cats — in return, they will help control the rodent population on your property.
Although we honor requests to the best of our ability, submitting an application does not guarantee placement. Once submitted, you will be contacted by phone or email within 3 business days.
