⚠️ IMPORTANT: Do not confuse the Vermilion Parish Rabies Animal Control (VPRAC) and Animal Aid for Vermilion Area (AAVA). VPRAC is animal control for Vermilion Parish — AAVA is the rescue organization working to save animals from VPRAC.
Pulling animals from Vermilion Parish Animal Control
The Vermilion Parish shelter does not have a public adoption program. The only way animals can leave that facility alive is through animal welfare organizations. If you're with a rescue group, please consider helping us save these pets — AAVA simply cannot handle the situation alone.
To pull a pet from VPRAC, your organization will need:
✓ An approved application and agreement on file with Animal Aid for Vermilion Area (see below)
✓ A written statement via email to AAVA stating the person authorized to pull on behalf of your organization
✓ A money order or check in the amount of $6 or $12 per dog depending on the length of time in the shelter. Any vetting performed while in the shelter will also need to be paid at the time of pull.
Please understand our situation: The pound will not hold pets for any groups, and we operate on a first come, first served, best fit basis. The faster animals move, the more we can save — and the pound fills up faster than we can empty it.
Some rescue groups offer to take pets under the condition that they are pulled, vaccinated, held in isolation for 10 days, and sometimes fixed. While we understand the rationale, it is very difficult for us to accommodate this. We simply do not have the foster homes and resources to keep animals for 10 days.
We do have boarding spots available at a cost of $12 per day if needed.
